FABRIC

1. Fabric Weight

The body of big bags is made from woven polypropylene fabric, typically with weights of 165g/m², 180g/m², or 200g/m². The appropriate fabric weight is determined by the Safety Workload (SWL) and Safety Factor (SF) of the big bag, with recommendations provided by Stakd's sales team based on these parameters. While customers generally do not select the fabric strength themselves, they can request a higher fabric weight for increased durability. A higher fabric weight results in a smaller bag belly when full and offers greater resistance to physical damage.
Fabric Weight for Inlet Spouts, Skirts, and Outlet Spouts
Inlet spouts, outlet spouts, and skirts are usually made from lighter fabric, such as 70g/m² or 100g/m². These components are typically coated, which makes them smoother and easier to handle, fold, and tie.

2. Coating

Big bag fabric can be either coated or uncoated. Coating adds an extra layer of polypropylene weighing 30g/m², making the fabric waterproof and preventing moisture from penetrating and fine materials from leaking out. Coated fabrics also feature dustproof seams, which help keep the contents clean. While coating enhances the fabric’s durability, it does increase costs and can reduce breathability, which may be necessary in some applications

3.Colour

White is the most common colour for bulk bags, accounting for nearly 95% of orders. Black is another readily available colour, often used for bags containing carbon black. Stakd can produce bulk bags in any colour, though custom colours are more economical for larger orders. All colours are available for custom printing.

4.UV Protection

Stakd incorporates UV protection of 250kly as standard in its fabrics for Southern Africa. This level ensures that fabric exposed to intense sunlight over a year retains at least 50% of its original strength, suitable for the higher UV exposure typical in this region.
